Cycling the Canal du Midi

We are ideally located for cycling the Canal du Midi, either as a short break or as a convenient longer term base using the local rail services to easily and quickly access all of the major towns along the canal du Midi and beyond.

Our bike storage area leads directly onto the newly created cycle path that leads Eastwards along the river Herault then via the Canal du Midi to Marseillan. It is easy from there to access Sete along the scenic coastal route.

Heading Westward is also easy, we are just a few minutes cycle ride to the well known round lock in Agde and the start of the cycle path all the way to Touolouse.

For those of you who prefer not to carry all your Worldly possessions with you as you travel we are an ideal base to access all the major towns along the canal via frequent train services. Bicycle carriage is free on all the TER services and each train has at least one carriage with dedicated bicycle racks or storage area. It is just a short 5 minute cycle ride over the river to Agde train station which has regular services to all the major towns along the canal du Midi as far as Toulouse. It is only 2 hours by train to Toulouse and just 1 hour to Carcassonne so most sections of the canal can easily be reached and you can be back at your accommodation in time for a soak in the bath before heading out to one of the many local and convenient restaurants in the evening.

It is very easy to access all the major shopping and dining areas in Agde via one of the many cycle paths in the town and local area with great access to the local beaches.

There are also numerous cycle tracks inland in the Herault region if you fancy a day or two away from the water.

We have cycled from Bordeaux to Sete and understand the difficulties a long journey on a bike entails. From carrying heavy luggage with you all day, finding your accommodation at the end of a long days cycling (normally it is at the top of a hill and never very easy to find) to finding somewhere reasonable to eat. Even simple things like washing and drying your clothes can be a major issue so we think being based in one place will make it a more pleasant experience, it even gives you the opportunity to have a rest day or two at the beach before getting back on the saddle.
